What I liked best about the book?

I love the fact that the names are easily read and remembered. I really connected with the characters loving Raki, such a sweet girl, and the lovely Jakai ;) All of the characters came alive for me bringing a sense of thrilling intensity. I just loved the Wizard of Light, such a likeable and clever character in a bumbling kind of way.

It was a great start with the would be warriors just as ordinary people without throwing powers about. I love how I was not overwhelmed with more fantasy than I could handle, there was a good balance to it.

The story becomes exciting as the two start a journey together which could result in their deaths, bringing an uncertainty as I read on. I loved the fact that it was not overly violent or sexual, which was an important like for me, and this did not detract from the fighting/battle and most tender scenes. Such a breath of fresh air.

What was a niggle for me:

For me at the beginning there was a little too much descriptive prose, a little less would have enabled me to form my own images in my head. I really enjoy picturing mental images from a story bringing it alive as I read. No matter though, because as the story progresses Mills gets into her stride and brought the land alive and I saw it so clearly.

Not sure about the book cover as it doesn't immediately show that it's a fantasy type genre.

Would I recommend this book? - Absolutely

I would recommend this fantasy as a thoroughly good read for any age especially YA. As a very much long past YA myself (more of a YS-young senior) it held my interest and excitement right up till the end which was not disappointing

Peril The Legend of Sedrak edition by Jackie G Mills Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A witty and well-done fantasy, perfect for young readers. Follow the brave Raki and her dynamic and challenging hero, Jackail, quest to find and destroy the all-powerful evil Sedrak who murdered Raki's family. Along the way she will find Queen Shakina who has some powerful abilities. Finally, there is also the element of love and tenderness. Nice character development, vivid scenes, and unique dialogue make this a very pleasant read.
very well written, I stayed on y toes and had a hard time setting this book down. I found I was very involved right from the start. Raki and Jakail are the best, I only hope there is more to come with these two.
This book is for all age groups and I believe anyone that reads this will have a great experience. All of us could use a little excitement and adventure
An absorbing fable that irresistably draws you in right from the start. It is set in imaginative new realms, which are beautifully conjured up by the author. The central character, Raki and her reluctant hero, Jakai are very believable. They have an antagonistic relationship, which ebbs and flows throughout the story, at times you feel as though you even want to bang their heads together!

This is a mythological tale, but the characters react in a very natural manner, to each other and to the dangers that they face. I thought that the author dealt with this very skilfully, particularly as Raki becomes aware of her destiny. In fact all the characters are well rounded, at times I even felt sorry for the antagonist, Sedrak.

All in all this is a well executed and thoroughly enjoyable YA tale that I would recommend.
This book was like reading an intimately well, described interlude into a prophecy written in prose reaching a fever pitch starting in Chapter 8. Raki is one of those strong female main characters which offsets the story quite nicely. The edge of your seat suspense with the mixture of fantasy, adventure and mythological undertones is engaging and honest. I like that the romance doesn't dominate the plotting of the story. I like it shows as well as tells the aspects of the story and the individual personalities of the characters while skillfully letting each characters individuality complement the other among the contrast. This is one of those stories you want to read again and again to find something else new that draws you in even deeper. Exciting well paced story!
This book is so gripping. From the moment I picked it up I couldn't put it down. The characters are instantly likeable and they are the sort of characters that you soon care about. Despite it being a fantasy book there is also an everyday ordinary aura to it. It is a great balance to it. Rake and Jakail are interesting and work well together. There is a spark to them, and they drive the story forward well. They seem alive and active, and have minds of their own.

The story flow well and it is easy to feel that you are a part of the book. It is easy to follow and stay with the story. There is an excitement to this book and it is brilliantly written. I found the descriptiveness to be good. it gave enough information to allow images to form, but enough room to allow each reader to visualise it their own way.

Overall this is a very enjoyable read. It is an ideal book to curl up with on a winter's night. This book is a YA fantasy book, but if you are older (like me) don't be put off picking it up.
